Who is eligible to lease a tax-free vehicle in Europe?

You must be an Australian resident and reside outside of the EU. You must not stay in the EU for more than 185 days in a consecutive 12 month period. You must not carry out any activity for gain during your stay (No working visas allowed)

What is the age limits for drivers?

The minimum driver age is 18 years and you must hold a full Australian drivers licence. There is no maximum driver age limit.

Can I travel on a European passport?

Yes you can. When completing the contracts you must complete the declaration of honour which outlines your intention to travel along with travel dates and a copy of your Australian residency visa or passport. If this is Electronic you may provide a copy of a utility bill more than 6 months old showing your residential address. You must not reside in the EU (European Union) and you must have been in Australia for more than 6 months. Detailed information including the declaration of honour will be sent with your forms when your booking has been confirmed

Do I need an International Drivers Permit (IDP)?

An International Drivers Permit (IDP), in conjunction with your Australian driver’s licence, is compulsory in some European countries, and highly recommended in others.
For the relative small cost, compared to the overall cost of your holiday, we recommend that all customers obtain and use an IDP in conjunction with their Australian driver’s licence.

Who can drive the vehicle?

A Citroën Euro Pass vehicle can only be registered in one name being the main driver of the vehicle who is the contract holder.
The leased vehicle may be driven only by the holder of the Citroën Euro Pass Order Form (the “Contract Holder”) or his/her Partner (i.e. spouse or legal co- habitant), direct descendants or ascendants, if they qualify for the scheme (refer “Eligibility”) and hold valid driving licence.
Direct ascendants/descendants may only drive the vehicle locally and cannot drive across country borders without the Contract Holder in the vehicle. The spouse/legal co-habitant can cross country borders, even if the Contract Holder is not in the vehicle.
Other drivers (not descendants/ascendants/spouse/legal co-habitant) can only drive the vehicle if they meet the same Eligibility conditions as the Contract Holder and the Contract Holder is inside the vehicle and unable to drive due to an emergency or exceptional circumstances.

Note: it is the Contract Holders responsibility to ensure they are aware of the driving requirements through each European country.

Where can I drive my vehicle?

You have comprehensive Insurance and 24 hour Assistance if you drive in any of the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Corsica, Croatia, Cyprus (Greek part), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (Mainland), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece (excludes Islands), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Principalities (Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco), Romania, San Marino, Sardinia, Serbia (excludes Kosovo), Sicily, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), Vatican City.

You are not permitted to drive into any countries not listed above

What sort of insurance do I have?

Your Citroën Euro Pass contract includes a comprehensive insurance policy including accident, fire, theft and third party cover with no excess

INSURANCE

Your Citroën/DS vehicle is covered by Insurance and 24/7 Assistance if you drive in any of the following countries or their islands:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Corsica, Croatia, Cyprus (Greek part only), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (mainland), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece (excludes Islands), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Sardinia, Serbia (excludes Kosovo), Sicily, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), Vatican City.

You are not permitted to drive into any countries not listed above.

Your Citroën/DS vehicle is covered as follows:

  • In case of accident, fire, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, broken windows, punctures by the no excess comprehensive insurance policy. (Contact Citroën EuroPass Australia for a copy of the insurance policy.)
  • Breakdown by the Citroën manufacturer warranty.

ASSISTANCE

If you are involved in any of the events listed above, or have accidently put the wrong fuel in your vehicle, there is a specific process you must follow, as noted below. Please also refer to the ‘Travel Book’ that you will be given when you collect your vehicle.

Note: The Travel Book’ also details all incidents that are not covered – please ensure you make yourself aware of these.

Incidents relating to tyres or glass

  1. Contact Citroën’s 24/7 Assistance call centre on +33 (0)9 69 36 07 60 to obtain a claim number and authorisation to arrange repairs (in some cases you could be asked to pay for the repair, ideally on your credit card).
  2. Ensure all receipts include the Contract Holders full name and vehicle registration number.
  3. Keep hold of the original receipt and forward to Citroën EuroPass Australia on your return home, with cover letter detailing the incident, Assistance claim number (please take a copy of everything first) and your bank account details.
  4. You will be reimbursed directly into your bank account within 3-4 weeks of Citroën EuroPass Australia receiving the original receipt/s.

Note: Unauthorised repair costs will not be reimbursed.

Incidents relating to a mechanical problem or breakdown

  1. Contact Citroën’s 24/7 Assistance call centre on +33 (0)9 69 36 07 60 to report the problem and receive help to find and get to the nearest Citroën garage.
  2. Repair costs are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and should not be charged to you.
  3. Depending on the vehicle’s diagnosis Assistance will arrange, at their cost, either accommodation (max €65/person/night) or a rental car (to a limit of €915) until your vehicle is repaired. Once the repair is complete you must return your rental car and take back your vehicle from the Citroën garage of repair. (If it is known that your vehicle cannot be repaired prior to the end of your lease, in some cases a replacement Citroën will be provided, however this is not always possible due to availability constraints and/or the length of time it takes to register, insure and deliver a vehicle.) Close liaison with Assistance is required so they are aware of your plans throughout the process.

Incidents relating to an accident, fire or theft of the vehicle

  1. Contact Citroën’s 24/7 Assistance call centre on +33 (0)9 69 36 07 60 to report the incident and receive help.
  2. You must obtain a police report plus an accident report must be completed/signed by all parties (provided on vehicle collection). Email the police and accident reports to: [email protected], then take a copy and post the originals to: Citroën Euro Pass, Service Insurance, Immeuble NOVA, 71 boulevard National, 92250 La Garenne-Colombes, France.
  3. The Assistance solution is subject to many factors including where the incident has occurred and how long a repair is likely to take. Depending on the situation Assistance will arrange, at their cost, either accommodation (max €65/person/night) or a rental car (to a limit of €915) until your vehicle is repaired. Once the repair is complete you must return your rental car and take back your vehicle from the Citroën garage of repair. (If it is known that your vehicle cannot be repaired prior to the end of your lease, in some cases a replacement Citroën will be provided, however this is not always possible due to availability constraints and/or the length of time it takes to register, insure and deliver a vehicle.) Close liaison with Assistance is required so they are aware of your plans throughout the process.
  4. Any towing or repair costs should not be charged to you, however if they are please ensure they have been authorised by Assistance and original receipts are kept for reimbursement. Receipts must include the Contract Holder’s name and vehicle registration number.
  5. If you were asked to pay for anything, on your return home please forward original receipts to Citroën EuroPass Australia with cover letter detailing the incident, Assistance claim number (please take a copy of everything first) and your bank details.
  6. You will be reimbursed directly into your bank account within 3-4 weeks of Citroën EuroPass Australia receiving the original receipt/s. Note: Unauthorised repair costs will not be reimbursed.

Can I take my vehicle on a ferry?

Yes, this is permitted.

If I book a car that is too small/big can I upgrade/downgrade on arrival?

As your vehicle has effectively been built for you and registered/insured in your name, it is not possible to upgrade or downgrade on collection. It is therefore imperative that you choose your size of vehicle carefully.

Do I have to service my car?

Your Citroën or DS vehicle will require a service at either 20,000kms or 30,000kms depending on the model. Refer to the service card delivered with your vehicle. Servicing can only be done at a Citroën/DS garage.

Do I get a full tank of fuel on collection?

No. You will receive approx. 10-15 litres of fuel in your vehicle, so you should make a fuel station your first stop. You are not required to return the vehicle with a full tank.

You can request to have your vehicle delivered with a full tank of fuel at time of booking.

Will my vehicle come with ‘Winter Tyres’?

Will my vehicle come with all the equipment required by individual countries?

Your vehicle will come with an emergency triangle and one safety vest. The safety vest must be stored inside the vehicle (not in the boot). If a situation requires you to exit your vehicle on the side of a road you must put on a vest before leaving the vehicle.

Any other equipment that may be required in some countries are your responsibility.

What if I have a problem with the car during my holiday?

You must call the 24/7 Citroën Assistance call centre and they will guide you

I am travelling with children – what is the rule with regard to child seats?

The rule in France is that all children under 10 years must be in a child restraint, based on their weight. Other countries may have different rules so please ensure you make yourself aware of these. You can enquire about our accessories at time of booking.

Note: you are purchasing them, so they are yours to keep. Alternatively, you can take your own child seats as long as they meet European regulations.

Can I keep my vehicle for longer than I booked it for?

As long as you are not going over the maximum lease duration of 175 days, you can extend your lease whilst in Europe. At least 4 working days prior to the end of your contract you must call the Citroën Euro Pass head office in Paris to make the necessary arrangements, provide Visa or Mastercard details and an email address for the updated Insurance document to be emailed. (You must print this and keep in the vehicle.)

Note: if you arrange an extension, then change your mind and return earlier, no refund is provided for these unused days.

Also, if you have pre-booked a duration that may not include the maximum ‘free days’ on offer due to a promotion, you cannot utilise these free days by way of an extension in Europe. Instead, you must pay/proceed as noted above.

How do I purchase the emission sticker that is required in certain parts of Germany?

As you will be driving a French car it is your responsibility to source this sticker. These can be purchased from vehicle registration offices, vehicle inspection stations (TUV’s in German), authorised garages and post offices. Simply show the registration papers that you are given at the start of the long term car hire and the dealer will provide you with the emission sticker. The cost is approximately EUR8.
