WORLDRIVE CAR HIRE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is it cheaper to pre-book my car hire or should I pay directly when I arrive?
Our car hire prices are considerably lower than booking on arrival. Our rates are paid in Australian dollars. Once you have paid your booking and received the confirmation the rates are locked in for the booking dates you have selected saving you from any possible price increase or currency exchange rate fluctuations. We encourage you to book early to benefit from promotional discount offers and the best rates as well as ensuring you secure a vehicle and avoid the disappointment of missing out due to supply being exhausted as often during peak times and for popular vehicle groups they can sell out early.
What is included in the car hire rate?
Our hire car rates will generally include:
- Third Party Insurance: Compulsory insurance that covers you for other people’s injury and damage to their vehicle.
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): This limits your financial liability for damage to the rented vehicle.
Rentals are subject to an insurance liability excess, which can be reduced at the time you collect your rental car or you may already have adequate hire car excess coverage on either your credit card or travel insurance policy.
- Theft and Loss Cover: This limits your financial liability for the loss or theft of the rented vehicle
- Personal Accident Insurance: This covers the driver for personal injuries and is generally not included in your car rental rate. It is considered an optional extra that you can take out upon collection of the car, payable direct to the hire car company.

Can I request a particular car model?
No, most car categories will be based on “or similar” car types. Due to the suppliers mixed fleet, car types are subject to availability at time of collection.
Car rental vehicles move between branch locations and different cities. Therefore, occasionally the vehicle you pick up may not be the exact make and model you selected at the time of booking. Normally the vehicle will be within the vehicle category booked however if none are available it will be a similar size or alternatively the next category available.
Vehicle types, images and specifications displayed online are only given as a guide, they are simply an example of the type of vehicle that the rental company includes within that particular vehicle category. You will be booking a particular category rather than a specific vehicle model, so even if your pre-paid voucher shows a vehicle model, there is no guarantee you will receive the model noted.
Do I require an International Driving Permit?
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is proof that you hold a valid drivers licence in your home country at the date of issue of the IDP. This should be carried with your domestic drivers licence. It is a required or recommended for many countries when hiring a motor vehicle.
How old do I need to be to hire a car?
Depending upon the country and rental company the minimum renter age can vary between 21 and 25. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver’s surcharge and be restricted from hiring certain vehicle types.
Is there a maximum age to hire a car?
This varies between countries, individual rental companies and locations. Some companies have no maximum age restrictions whilst others vary between 70 and 75 and restrict the vehicle categories available
Do you charge a fee if I pay with a credit card?
No, whilst our suppliers do charge a fee, we do not pass that fee on to our customers.
Do I need to advise my flight number when booking a hire car for airport collection?
Yes your arrival flight number is very important information for the car rental company if you are collecting a vehicle from an airport.
If you experience a flight delay and the rental company is aware of your flight details, they are more likely to hold the vehicle for you. Without arrival flight details in your reservation and if you haven’t collected the vehicle at the booked time, they may treat your reservation as a ‘no-show’ and release the vehicle to another customer.
If no flight details are entered into your reservation, we cannot guarantee the rental car supplier will hold the vehicle for you, especially during busy holiday periods.
It is essential when hiring a car to present on collection a valid credit card in the main drivers name. The car rental company will hold a security bond against the card. Pre-paid cards/travel cards and debit cards may not be accepted.
Can I make amendments to my confirmed booking?
If you need to change your booking for dates, change of location or change of vehicle type, the rental company will require a new booking and any pre-offered discounted rates would not be transferrable. The new booking would be calculated at the rate applicable for the day of amendment.
